Thursday Morning - Meeting place, BSSC, History and Archives, Resolutions

Orlando was selected as the location of the 2025 ABA meeting. 2023 will be in Spokane, WA, and 2024 will be in Springfield, IL.

The BSSC report and its line items were approved (5% raise for the business manager who has not received a raise in several years and a $7500 performance bonus, 3% raise for editor-in-chief, and rising vote of appreciation for the employees of Bogard Press). The information is basically the same as what I posted on Tuesday morning from the committee meeting. One question was asked about the decrease in staffing necessary to recover from the long-term deficits and meet the financial challenges of post-COVID economic realities. Bogard Press moved from 57 full-time-equivalents to 43 full-time-equivalents. It was clarified that this was based on the ministry's needs rather than on longevity or the employee's membership in an ABA or other Baptist church. There will be no increase in prices, although the messengers have previously made provision for increasing prices in an emergency with supply costs.

Both the Business Manager and Editor-in-Chief were reelected unanimously with standing ovations.

The Baptist Sunday was reelected with Micah Carter substituted for Everett Ledbetter, Terry Parrish for Jim Philamlee. Eric Sutton was nominated in the place of Jeff Krisell.

The History and Archives Committee ran a deficit this year and is in need of more offerings. Brother Paul Clark was granted a special award for his service (you can see much of it on mbaoftexas.org). On the history and arhcives committee, Brother Russell Bailey was selected to replace Robert W. Cullifer, who is in poor health.
Enrollment and finance committee: 467 messengers plus 1000 visitors.

Resolution: Of appreciation for Orlando and Calvary BC (and Pastor Steve Rutherford).

The chaplaincy report shared the tragic numbers from the Officer Down Memorial Page.

A security committee was selected to develop policies and procedures for the protection of our messengers in future meetings.

A resolution in favor of the abolition of abortion and rejection of incremental approaches was approved.

The report of the new BSSC was approved and the report of the MBSF (Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship - college ministry).

The next time I am up for a position against Eric Sutton, I am going to get a haircut first.  :)

  1. I am EXTREMELY PROUD of the abolition resolution! Are the officers, annual speaker, etc. elected this afternoon?

  2. “rising vote of appreciation”
Are the employees getting a raise or just a pat on the back because they are appreciated?

The abortion resolution was very timely considering that, when I got home that the SCOTUS has overturned Roe v. Wade!! PRAISE THE LORD for this! However, we need to keep on praying because there are some states that are preparing legislation to keep it legal in their jurisdictions.

    1. The SCOTUS should have ruled an baby a person from the moment of fertilization. One of the Justices on the Roe case said such a ruling would have destroyed the woman's argument. It would have abolished abortion.
